Remington Shine Therapy 1 inch Hair Straightener Iron

I purchased the Remington hair straightener after my GHD met it's demise on the tile floor and would no longer stay on.

I specifically wanted a two-inch plate flat iron. I already own a few one-inch irons, but they require more time and multiple passes per section, which is not ideal for my hair.

I also wasn't about to drop too much cash on something I might be clutzy with.

This Remington had excellent reviews, so I decided to give it a try.

For context, I have thick, coarse Greek/Italian hair—and a lot of it. It’s prone to frizz unless I use heat styling tools, so performance really matters for me.

Straight out of the box, the iron looks sleek and well-made. The temperature controls and on/off buttons are positioned comfortably and easy to use. There’s also a plate lock switch near the power cord, which is great for travel and storage. The cord length is sufficient for my setup, though it doesn’t have a surge-protected plug—something I personally don’t mind, but others might prefer.

It’s also noticeably lighter than my other flat irons, which makes styling less tiring.

The iron powers on at 380°F and adjusts in 10-degree increments. I started at 390°F and worked in fairly large sections to really test its capability.

On the first pass, I did notice that the plates didn’t feel quite as smooth as my GHD or Paul Mitchell irons. However, it still straightened my hair beautifully in just one pass at a relatively low temperature—an excellent tradeoff in my opinion.

Unlike my GHD, this iron didn’t snag, pull, or catch my hair at all. The slightly curved edges also make it easy to create loose waves when desired.

I can’t comment much on added shine since my hair is naturally shiny, but I can say this: my frizzy lob (just past my shoulders) was completely smooth in under 10 minutes—including time spent sectioning and working through thicker areas.

Considering this costs at least five times less than my GHD—and performed better in almost every way—I’m genuinely impressed.

I highly recommend this flat iron to anyone with thick, coarse, or frizz-prone hair who wants a two-inch plate iron. It’s a fantastic tool at an excellent price point from a reliable brand.
